Columbia

Colombia gained its independence from Spain in 1819, but has been a country marked by division. For four decades, it suffered under armed conflict. Marxist guerrilla groups, drug cartels seeking to control sectors of the country, and other paramilitary groups fighting for dominance, drove millions of Colombians out of their country. A peace process, initiated in 2004 has helped to bring stability, and the demobilization of partisan militia groups. Since 1991, Colombia’s new constitution has opened the doors to more diversity in religion, though 93% of the population adheres to Christianity (79% Roman Catholic, and 14% Protestant). The Church of the Nazarene has been working in Colombia since 1975, and has experienced the impact of many of those divisive years. But, God is moving through the Church of the Nazarene, bringing unity in vital ways, across generations, to impact this country and beyond with the Good News of Jesus, and the transformative message of scriptural holiness.

Colombia United in Giving and Praying for Missions

Colombia is united for missions through the Alabaster Offering and the World Evangelism Fund (WEF)!

During October 2024, the Church of the Nazarene in Colombia experienced a time of deep unity, purpose, and passion for global missions through participation in the Alabaster Offering. With generous hearts and a vision focused on expanding God’s kingdom, local churches joyfully joined in this tangible expression of love and commitment.

That same spirit of dedication was evident in the month of November as well, when the country’s districts joined together enthusiastically to present the Thanksgiving Offering to the World Evangelism Fund (WEF). Thanks to this collective effort, a historic amount was raised: more than US$27,000 between both missionary offerings, marking an unprecedented unity in the country’s missions giving history.

Superintendents, leaders of Nazarene Missions International (NMI), pastors, and congregations from the most remote rural areas to the largest major cities responded, united in the call. When God’s people mobilize support with a common vision, what follows is missions advancement, transforming power, and a significant impact on individuals and communities.

This generosity not only represented a blessing in financial terms; it also caused a Spirit-breathed revival in the heart of the Colombian church, with every generation reaffirming its commitment to the Great Commission. When such Christ-centered unity is experienced, teamwork flows harmoniously and effectively, making the extraordinary possible.

The blessings continued to be evidenced through a powerful movement of prayer throughout the country. During the Global Week of Prayer, the church was called to intercede for regions of the world. Through daily meetings on Zoom, leaders, pastors, and members from different districts joined in intercession, reaching an average of 120 daily participants and an estimated total of 800 connections throughout the week.

We glorify God for the extraordinary missionary awakening that the Church of the Nazarene in Colombia is experiencing!
